I also selected the X8SIL-F for a new Open Solaris server. I have just started evaluating, and will be continuing after Christmas.
One thing I have not been able to get working is the SATA port multiplier support. Intel specifies that the 3420 chipset is capable of port multiplier support, but the BIOS in this MB does not detect the extra drives. Have you evaluated this? I'd appreciate any insights you have. Also, I want to install Open Solaris on a USB stick attached to the USB port on the MB. Have you tried this?
