Avon:
Try logging into an xterm session from the login screen, then run % dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session --debug This should cause the desktop to show up, but you will be able to see the debug output of starting gnome-session in the terminal window. Adding the debug argument should cause gnome-session to display additional information about what it is doing. If you notice any particular delays while gnome-session is starting up, letting us know more details about when in the gnome-session startup sequence things are particularly slow would help to narrow down the problem. Also, after your session starts, you could try going to System->Preferences->Startup Applications. If you have Tracker enabled, it could be consuming a lot of resources. Shawn already highlighted that turning off compiz (Visual Effects) may make a significant performance difference, so that is worth a try as well. If your graphics card doesn't support OpenGL, then compiz would be very slow. Brian
I've got a real problem since svn_132. #1 Time between login and the appearance of the desktop is almost 1 minute. #2 System becomes unusable because gconfd-2 uses 2,1 GiB of my system memory. Hope someone could help me with this. System specs: Board: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 Processor: Intel E6300 Memory: G.Skill F2-6400CL4D-4GBHK 4,0 GiB Disk space: 1TB (301,6 GiB free)
