[osol-help] Unable to Shutdown

When working with OpenSolaris 2008.11, Gnome can not shutdown/restart the 
computer. Instead it seems to log out and then go to a completely white screen. 
Will do nothing from there. Laptop is a Sony Vaio - model VGN-FZ180E. Any 
workaround or help is appreciated.
