I'm new-new with OpenSolaris 2008.05 on x86, but looking to (finally) shift
from Win to Unix servers. I have a Unix-Sun upbringing. I've Gparted a 10Gb
partition on a near-new Dell gx630, set it to linux-swap, and when I use the
OpenSolaris/get CD, it fails (several times, several newly cut CD's).
Here're the last 4 lines of the log:
   [Multiboot-kludge, loadaddr=0xbffe38, text-and-data=0x1786e8, bss=0x0,
entry=0xc00000]
   '/platform/i86pc/kernel/amd64/unix' is loaded
   module /boot/x86.microroot
   Error 25: Disk Read Error

Why can't I fully install OpenSolaris on this brand new partition?

There's a plethera of "upgrade from Solaris" and "upgrade from Linux" posts,
but scant few from-nothing-installs to go by.

I tried to first install Ubuntu 8.04 to then jump to OpenSolaris, but had
Ubuntu problems because my mouse/keyboard are USB.
Thx.
