Hmm, I guess now you run into bug 6600169. 6600169 happens with the changes made to the ata driver that is included in snv_72 or newer. http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6600169 Unfortunately, it now fails even before getting to the point there you would see those "ata abort / reset" errors... :-/ > Hehe, what's annoying is that the drive is fine, > works fine up until this point, works installing a > different OS, etc. Well, until this point the BIOS was used to read from the optical drive. If fails as soon as the kernel starts to use Solaris' own ata driver to read from the optical device. AFAICT, problem is that the snv_72 ata driver tried to optimize the driver for use under xVM (=Xen) [*], but that did break optical device detection for *some* (but not all) ATAPI devices. [*] http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6570357 > Any suggestions on how I might troubleshoot at this > point or some sort of boot with debug method? thanks! I believe that if you connect both a HDD and the problematic ATAPI optical device on the same P-ATA channel, then both devices will be detected. This message posted from opensolaris.org
