These days everything is SATA I guess. The disk you're metioned is a Seagate.
I've installed Solaris (and its derivatives) on both SATA (Samsung) and PATA(Western Digital & Seagate). The disk normally won't be an issue. Otherwise download the ISO image, burn it and boot from it. OpenSolaris is pretty much 'plug and play' if you install it on a desktop. This message posted from opensolaris.org
