You wrote "Solaris 2009-6" and it's about 6 months old. What shows this command :
cat /etc/release as you have external USB disk it will be fine to see outputs of these commands : tail /var/adm/messages (after connection of external disk) pfexec mdb -k (and type ::prtusb -v) cfgadm -v -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
