Hello All- Having a terrible time getting new SATA disks to show up under build 75. I originally got OS running using a single PATA drive. I then added 2 more PATA drives and put them into a ZFS pool. After this was running successfully, I purchased the SuperMicro 8-port SATA controller card which is recommended for OS use. This is where my problems begin.
I added the first SATA drive (Seagate Baraccuda 500gb) and promptly got nowhere. Under format, the drive showed up as "Unknown Type". After flailing around for a while, I decided to try reinstalling the OS (Since I was not convinced the controller had be correctly identified). The OS reinstall went smoothly, and at the end of it the drive was recognized & I was able to add it to the ZFS pool with no problem. Immediately after this, I added another (identical) SATA drive, assuming that it should be immediately recognized since it's "brother" was up and running. Unfortunately, it is now "Unknown Type" in the same way the first was. I must be missing some obvious step, since I cannot believe I must reinstall the OS everytime I add a drive ;-). I've searched the frums for solutions & tried a variety of things (devfsadm, format, boot -r, init 6, etc etc) but only an OS reinstall results in the drive being reconginzed & mounted. Help would be greatly appreciated... Mark This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list [email protected]
