Hi,
I'm encountering problems installing openssl-0.9.6.tar.gz on Red Hat 7.2.
1.During untarring and installation I get error messages on issues concerning symbolic
links.
Does this mean I need to have an earlier version of openssl installed so that I have
the files to link to? I had the binary of openssl-0.9.6 package already installed. I
manually uninstalled the binary package to install from source and the same message
appeared.
2. On continuing with the installation after untarring (just in case the earlier
messages will not hinder openssl operation), the ./config command gives problems.
During the command execution it says messages like " creating symbolic link 'Makefile'
to 'Makefile.ssl': operation not permitted."
Also the subsequent make process gives the message " *** no targets specified and no
makefile found".
I have the necessary packages installed , i.e make and Perl version 5 that came with
Red Hat 7.2. Is there anything necessary for the development environment in form of
development libraries and C header files that doesn't come default as default with the
Red Hat installation. Also the gcc compiler doesn't it suffice as an ANSI C compiler?

I'm looking to provide openssl package for my Red Hat 7.2 system so that it can
provide libcrypto.so.0.9.6 and libssl.so.0.9.6 as dependancies for Kannel SMS-WAP
gateway. Please mail me any help on this or send links to resources.

Thanks, Mike
