This sounds a lot like the issues discussed in the changelog entry
for OpenSSL 1.0.1a, however it is unclear which of the 3 workarounds
listed are enabled by default and if there are any special application
requirements for using them.

See further comments inline below.

I have executed the following successfully

curl --trace curl.out -O
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/li/linux-ck/linux-ck.tar.gz

Please try the trace again with openssl s_client from each tested
OpenSSL version, to eliminate any issues in the curl code, such
as the issues discussed in openssl-1.0.1e/CHANGES under the
heading "Changes between 1.0.1a and 1.0.1b [26 Apr 2012]".

with openssl 1.0.0.e (on ubuntu) : Protocol version used: 3.1

Note: Protocol field 3.1 == TLS 1.0

Note: Record length not reported in e-mail

with 1.0.1.d: Protocol version used: 3.2

Note: Protocol field 3.2 == TLS 1.1

Note: Record length not reported in e-mail

but doesn’t work with 1.0.1.e. Beside additional cypher suites supported
by more recent versions the most obvious difference I see is the
protocol version. Maybe the protocol version can be controlled by a conf
file setting.

Would it be possible for you to post your curl.out content?

Olivier,

The command line you provided just worked fine in my box, in which a
fresh openssl-1.0.1e installed.

This is a new behavior from version 1.0.1-e 1.0.1-d was which sending
ClientHello v3.2 are fine.

  How to reproduce:

openssl s_client -connect aur.archlinux.org:443
<http://aur.archlinux.org:443>

Enjoy
