What appears to me to be the same problem has been reported a number of times:

I also have an ASUS P5B Deluxe and reported the same problem work-around
here on 23 November (at the time I was unaware of the prior history of
this bug).

If the JMicron is set to "IDE" in the P5B BIOS, the pata_jmicron driver
is not loaded and the install halts with "Make sure that CD1 is in your
drive." Backing up in the text install and manually loading pata_jmicron
allows the install to proceed.

However, if the JMicron is set to "AHCI" in the P5B BIOS, the same
procedure (manually loading pata_jmicron) results in the install
message: "Insert nil CD1" during the "initializing catalogs" stage. I
have not found a work-around to get past this point. After aborting,
looking at the installed drivers shows pata_jmicron is still installed.
Why does the install program suddenly fail to see that CD1 is in the
drive?

Installing from the same CDs using a SCSI optical disk succeeds, and the
PATA optical drive is accessible with the P5B BIOS set to "AHCI" for the
JMicron.

I sent email to the assignee (Steffen Winterfeldt) for the "new" bug,
but have not received a response.

Suggestions on how to proceed to finally get this old problem fixed are
welcomed.
