Thank you, it looks fine. Now I've upgraded my openSUSE 12.3 machines to
Gnome 3.8, but can't find a new feature that should be available:

Gnome Classic session on the login menu !?

Thanks,
Terje J. Hanssen

zypper in gnome-shell-classic

Note that we have not enabled any magic yet, so the extensions are just
installed but not enabled when you log in via the gnome-classic
selection.
Enable the ones you want in tweak-tool for now.

Yeah, I see. An upgrade from 3.6.2 did not include the gnome-shell-classic. Now I've added it, logged into a classic session and enabled the avavilable extensions as mentioned here http://www.webupd8.org/2013/02/a-quick-look-at-new-gnome-classic.html

But I have to admit it isn't easy to see the differences compared to the normal Gnome 3 session and it's enabled extensions. What I have missed from Gnome 2.x is drag and drop from the desktop to the bottom panel and the ability to create my own application quick launchers and more. The Gnome 3 bottom panel still looks brain dead in comparision(?)
