Nice is not the same as IOnice ;-)

You can give the process a scheduling class "Best effort" with "priority" 
0...7, with 0 being the higher priority. In this case, I would try the 
class "Real time", because that should warranty the best I/O effort.

(is it warranty or warrantie or... :-?  I'm off to my Siesta ;-) )
