Thanks for that. The installer link I gave basically does exactly that. I have also done what you stated (i.e. add the repository manually and install packages.) However, whatever I do X crashes when using the nvidia driver.
The very strange thing is if I now run sax2 it detects the nvidia ok. It starts it own x server WHICH IS SUCCESSFUL. I can test it and save the config ok. BUT next startx or init 5 and the server crashes with the original error... rerun sax2 and it works... SO... sax2 can start the x server successfully but from the command line or init 5 I cannot. Very strange. What command is sax2 using to start the the x server? Anybody any ideas...
