The problem is this:
1) Prelude: After I downloaded some patches for the kernel (OpenSuSE
10.2), I wound up on the boot menu with two entries for Linux kernel.
Pressing <CR> while the top listed (Linux) menu entry was highlighted
made the computer reboot. Highlighting the second Linux entry caused
the computer to enter Linux. Both Linux selections were marked
"default" in the Yast Boot Loader menu.
2) The Problem: I went to YAST and deleted the top menu entry for
Linux, and moved the second Linux entry to the top. Now, on boot up,
the boot menu shows one Linux entry. Unfortunately, pressing <CR> with
that entry highlighted causes the computer to reboot!
I am now booting using the factory DVD which takes a long time. How do
I fix this? (I will be installing 10.3 when it arrives, but I suspect
I'll have the same problem with 10.3, so advice now would be useful to
save in case I get multiple boot menu Linux entries after applying a
kernel patch).
