The radeon drivers and libraries seem to be having major problems,
especially in my case. I have 3 semi-related bugs open dealing with the
driver and library issues. The gory details are at:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=338930
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=338947
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=340459

Let us cross our fingers that "progress" will be made. The drivers on
my laptop with the mobility radeon 9700 are so crippled the only way I
can log in and log out without the system hanging is NO 3D at all.
Instead of the wonderful compiz I used to enjoy on the laptop, now frame
rates are barely over 200 fps. Hopefully, this issue the issue with the
ATI drivers and libraries is getting some attention. To Novell's credit,
they are very aware of the issue, but are somewhat hamstrung with the
closed source reverse-engineered driver and the fglrx driver AMD is
putting out is well out of step with the needed libraries.

        Good luck with your issues.
