Try manual mount via fstab, on the command line.
as user this is what I get:
mount /dev/fd0 /media/floppy
mount: only root can do that

Am I missing something in the mount command?

That you obviously forgot about defining an fstab entry. Like this one:

/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,user 0 0

Then try "mount /mnt/floppy". Obviously, /mnt/floppy must exist and be empty.

And read the manual :-)

I would never use such a method. It will never be reliable. Use an USB
gadchet instead.

Yes I was just out looking and I found that Scandisk now makes an 8GB usb
device. Need to research it to insure it will work with 10.3 before I buy
one.

8GB must be top class, mine is just 1GB, but 2 is typical and 4 is also easy to find, but more expensive. I would not buy the biggest unless I really need the capacity, because these things are, after all, easy to loose and have a limited life.

Mine, a Kingston, mentions Linux in the box, so I bought that one.
