Well, nobody tested openthinclient.org on FreeBSD yet, but I have a
feeling we got ourselves a volunteer. :-)
Looks like so;-)

The server starts

12:06:38,954 INFO [Server] JBoss (MX MicroKernel) [4.2.2.GA (build:
SVNTag=JBoss_4_2_2_GA date=200710221139)] Started in 18s:941ms

That's quite fast. :-)
It's a dual Quad-Core Xeon w/2.0 GHz and 8GB RAM running FreeBSD 7.0- RELEASE in 64bit-mode, if that matters. The machine is not yet in productive use , so i have the chance to do some tests like evaluating openthinclient.

but the client doesnt boot and stops with
PXE-E53 - No boot filename received.

Ok, that means he did not get anything in the PXE phase, which could
mean two things:
a) the TFTP server is not working, that could be checked by trying
to retrieve "/pxelinux.0" from the server via TFTP

doing just a

adminx:tmp henry$ tftp hotrat
tftp> get /pxelinux.0
Error code 0: java.io.IOException: Transfer mode "netascii" not supported

and the server logs accordingly:

10:56:33,635 ERROR [TFTPServer] READ: error starting transfer for / 10.3.7.25:49702
java.io.IOException: Transfer mode "netascii" not supported
at org.openthinclient.tftp.tftpd.TFTPServer $TFTPSend.parseRequest(TFTPServer.java:149) at org.openthinclient.tftp.tftpd.TFTPServer $TFTPSend.<init>(TFTPServer.java:131) at org.openthinclient.tftp.tftpd.TFTPServer.handleREAD(TFTPServer.java:754)
        at org.openthinclient.tftp.tftpd.TFTPServer.run(TFTPServer.java:699)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619)

Doing the same with the binary command beforehand, it works:
adminx:tmp henry$ tftp hotrat
tftp> binary
tftp> get /pxelinux.0
Received 13156 bytes in 0.0 seconds

10:57:58,633 INFO [TFTPServer] Starting TFTP send for /pxelinux.0 to / 10.3.7.25:49707
10:57:58,633 INFO [TFTPServer] TFTP startup took 2
10:57:58,644 INFO [TFTPServer] TFTP send to /10.3.7.25:49707 finished normally.

b) the client is not yet configured in the manager. Could you please
check whether the client appears in the "PXE Clients" or in the
"ThinClients" section of the manager? If it is in the "PXE Clients"
section, you will have to right-click the entry in the list and
select "Bearbeiten" ("Edit") and configure the ThinClient. (You
will want to create a Standort (Location) and a HardwareType
  first though).

It does. I did like the docs at the website suggested..
I re-did it a second time, just in case, but same results:
...
11:57:13,341 INFO [EavesdroppingPXEService] Conversation started
11:57:13,351 INFO [EavesdroppingPXEService] Got OFFER within Conversation[1/00:0c:29:03:00:75/755171445]: age=39, client=[Client name=adminx-ThinClient, description=VMWare Fusion 1.1.1, ip=10.3.119.241, location=Default applicationGroups={}, applications={}] 11:57:13,352 INFO [EavesdroppingPXEService] Sending PXE proxy offer DHCP Offer: hwAddress=1/00:0c:29:03:00:75, tx=755171445, [EMAIL PROTECTED] 11:57:13,352 INFO [EavesdroppingPXEService] Got OFFER within Conversation[1/00:0c:29:03:00:75/755171445]: age=1, client=[Client name=adminx-ThinClient, description=VMWare Fusion 1.1.1, ip=10.3.119.241, location=Default applicationGroups={}, applications={}] 11:57:13,352 INFO [EavesdroppingPXEService] Sending PXE proxy offer DHCP Offer: hwAddress=1/00:0c:29:03:00:75, tx=755171445, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

and the client stops as before after
Network boot from Am79C970A
...
Client Mac Addr: ...
PXE-E53: No boot filename received.

If you need any help, please don't hesitate to email or give us a call.
Thanks for listening..

Schöne Grüße nach Tübingen! Wir freuen uns auch über Besucher! :-)
Das ist ja wirklich nicht weit:-)
