Ok, sounds familiar, you're not alone... :-))

Virtual client? We have had some issues ourselves with such a setup
where the server did not see the broadcasts from the client. At least
not if it wasn't a bridged interface IIRC.

It works like this: there are software repositories on the server
archive.openthinclient.org which provide extra packages not yet in
the OTC installation archive. Also, you can add other repositories
yourself if you e.g. develop your own packages.

Your server will have to be able to do HTTP access to get the
list of packages and the packages themselves when needed. You
might have to select the proxy during installation (can be
manually added later, but this involves editing text files).

One thing you might have to do is to issue an update request
to the package management to get the list of currently available
packages. This has to be done manually (design decission, we did
not want to give the "phone home" impression...) by rigth clicking
on the node "Package management" and selection "reload" which loads
the current package list via HTTP.

Then, there should be a few new entries in the installable and
updatable sections...

But you can not simply add a debian/ubuntu software package to
the system because:
- to make the software manageable, we have to add the XML file
for the manager and a launcher for the application (or some
other mechanism to start it appropriately)
- in order to not have to depend on Linux as the server, we have
to package the stuff in a filesystem image (we chose squashfs
for that purpose due to its features)
Therefore the OTC packages have to be made especially, which is
not a huge task once you have done it before. Ok, the first time
is not that easy, but we will provide help... :-)

"Mostly german"? Hmmm, that should not be the case, the management
should detect that your browser prefers English and start with an
English locale. And the user side is configurable by setting up the
location accordingly.

Hmmm, ideally the procedure on
http://openthinclient.org/tiki-index.php?page_ref_id=78
should get you going.

Please tell us at what points of the procedure you face problems.
Then we know where to improve the documentation, insert details and
remove ambiguities... :-))

You are welcome! :-)

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask...
