Unfortunately, I can't answer your questions.  Sorry.  But I did want to 
mention that I fought with two Centos server installations and didn't get 
either of them to work.

I suspect I was 'swimming upstream' as they weren't 'supported' distros. 
I suspect it had to do with my Java installations...

Installing on Windows worked right off...I had a Windows 2003 VM running...
