The Techserv web site sucks a fair number of inquirers into posting to the Open Forum what is actually proper for the main support list, the EDA Forum. The Open Forum has relatively few subscribers; one is much more likely to get a response from the EDA Forum, which has, we suspect, thousands of subscribers, quite a few of whom are active. It is highly recommended that Protel users including demo users subscribe to the EDA Forum. Many otherwise difficult problems can be easily resolved with user support; user support is generally better than what Protel/Altium can provide. The protel-users family of lists on yahoogroups.com has an archive list which keeps all posts from the Techserv list, protel-users-archive. It is possible to log into that list through yahoogroups.com and search the archive. The question has been asked before about Windows ME, but I am not certain of the answer and don't have time at the moment to search the archive. Generally, I consider it poor form to ask a question on a list or newsgroup and request off-list response (unless the response would truly need to be private). By posting question and response to the list itself, many people who may have the same question will be served. For example, if this question has been asked and answered since the archive was started, Mr. Duldig might have been able to find his answer on the web (and the yahoogroups lists are sometimes available through google.com as well). Protel's official answer is that since Windows ME was released after Protel 99SE, proper performance under ME cannot be guaranteed. Windows NT or 2000 are the recommended operating systems, Windows 98 is tolerable, but I would not use the latter without expecting that I'm going to have to learn how to drive it so as not to crash.
