Hello...! Does anyone remember what happens to "mains" when it gets into the CD player... think back to basic power supplies :) First thing is it either heads for a transformer and then rectified, or gets rectified immediately to DC. After whatever sort of voltage conversion, it will be *regulated* before heading out to the electronics.
I am baffled how anyone could attempt to snow people with that assertion. You would think that no one in the world had ever heard of the regulated DC supply.
