Dear Admin I think help & support for the benefit of the Protel user is more important than the medium used as 'a' support mechanism (not 'the').
Users seeking assistance should be able to use any resource available to help them. If that is another mailing list so be it. Anyone posting a DXP question to PEDA, may not necessarily know of the existence of the Altium supported list and vice versa if the user only started with DXP. Another PEDA user pointing them to the Altium list is helping them AND PEDA, as users will be more likely to remember they DID get help here, even if it was indirect. The re-direction towards the DXP list is only an issue if promoting PEDA list is a primary concern, rated higher than assisting a user. I do not believe that to be anyone's intention. The Altium DXP list is fast, reliable, focussed on, supported by, participated in by Altium directly, and is pretty much self moderating as you will already know. It is not as if users are being directed to a second rate support resource. Also I believe in reality you will probably find most PEDA users will have joined the DXP list by now anyway. If you looked at a lot of the post replies made by PEDA users relating to DXP, you will see that the post was made to PEDA and the DXP list so DXP users are also aware of the PEDA list. Such posts can only be beneficial to both lists. As a final point DXP SP3 pre release customers are unable to use this list anyway, as their license agreement prohibits activity outside the special mail 'dxpsp3pr' list for that purpose. In my own mind, any restriction on what links users can post, to other support resources, only de-values the PEDA lists as a user resource. Having to also post such things to a separate OT forum which perhaps not all users will join, limits the users available resources for a response (reduced distribution). It would be an improvement here if the PEDA/OT/PDEV lists were merged and users simply trusted to put OT or DEV in front of the subject line. Best Regards John A.
