I did try saving my cloned config.  I should have mentioned that before.

It works OK even if I put some illegal characters in the comment and save
it.

To be clear, does it work if you do this?

  - clone "full and very deep"
  - click the edit icon
  - click the topmost "save config"

It should only grow by a few MB.  Are you running scans at the same time?

Hmm, the error you are getting is on the GSA side so I doubt it will even
show in the Manager logs.

What browser are you using?  Perhaps try another.
