I guess the naming comes from the first use, the reason it was created, was centered around uci-defaults. Personally, if we would rename it, I'd go for calling it /etc/firstboot.d/, but hey, what's in a name ? ;) I don't know if all this is actually documented on the wiki yet, it would be good to have it there in the platform reference....
