I guess the naming comes from the first use, the reason it was created,
was centered around uci-defaults. Personally, if we would rename it, I'd
go for calling it /etc/firstboot.d/, but hey, what's in a name ? ;)

I don't know if all this is actually documented on the wiki yet, it
would be good to have it there in the platform reference....

No problem, these scenarios are probably the least documented areas of
OpenWrt, and it always helps others to openly discuss these type of
things!
