I'm just going through the oldest PRs on GitHub, and I've noticed, that ath79
submissions are being more preferred between maintainers and that ar71xx PRs
are basically stalled, there are 24 open PRs for ar71xx Vs 14 open PRs for
ath79. So I'm wondering, what's the plan, is ar71xx being slowly and (quietly
:-)) turned into 'fixes only' mode and new devices/features should be now
added to ath79/DTS only? Thanks!

No need to wonder.

It has been stated pretty openly several times that ar71xx will be phased out and that all new devices should be added to ath79.

> This also means that although i did not want to do this, we should bump ar71xx to v4.14 for a last time. however we will not accept any new boards for ar71xx just fixes. all new boards need to be ported over to ath79.

(Ps. The earlier plan in February 2018 was to leave ar71xx with kernel 4.9 and thus leave it out from the 19.0x releases completely.)
