I have experimented with building OpenVPN on my Gentoo box. The
observation so far is: vpngate.net VPN works on that box when compiled
with the default options:
./configure --prefix=/usr
but fails in the same way as OpenWRT does if configured as follows:
./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-small
And OpenWRT does build OpenVPN with the --enable-small option by default.
