Yes, The RouterStation (non-pro) has a different switch chip
because it's 10/100 ethernet. Yes, there is a utility for configuring
the switch.

The RouterStation Pro is gigabit ethernet using the Atheros AR8316.

The price increase for the pro version is about $20, which
gets you double the memory, gigE, and an RS-232 console via
a DB-9, and SDIO. So other than the lack of configurable
VLANs you get a bit for the $20 delta.
The Mikrotik RouterBoard 450 also uses the same chip.

The closed source atheros driver is definitely a strike against
them

I could be wrong but I don't think there are currently any
closed source drivers needed for the RSpro with the AR8316.
You can use both the WAN (PoE) port, eth0 and the three LAN
gigE ports using kamikaze trunk just fine. There just isn't
a utility to configure the switch chip for other vlan
configurations.
Apparently the documentation on how to program the chip from
Atheros requires signing an NDA:

If anyone is considering not purchasing the RouterStation Pro
because of the lack of switch configuration support, it would
certainly help if you let Ubiquiti know that, especially if
quantities are involved.
