You're way off on the price. However you are correct that you can salvage
cards out of an older laptop that doesn't use PCIe.

The Ubiquiti SR-71A which looks like a very nice cars is $115.
Some have tested very good throughput with it.  Sure it's over
$100 but not "hundreds".
