There are some checks of the slaves done by the master already, but to add more you really need to create one check per slave assigned to the master against the slave IP address.
If you want to do this in a more autoamted way you could modify the nagconfgen.pl file to automatically create the checks and assign them for you. Have a look at the 'write_master_cfg' function.
