Peter - Have you looked at Oracle Standby Server? Which App server are you
using? Most of them claim to help you with this.

We are looking at fail over options for databases in a
7x24 e-commerce environment.

Currently, we are using advanced replication. It
works but it is labor intensive. We have also
discovered that the application can only use jdbc
rather than the Oracle thick client. In essence, this
replication is now manual fail over.

Would someone who has made java and the thick client
work provide some pointers to getting it to work?

Thanks,

=====
