http://www.tightvnc.org It's VNC, but with compression levels that can be set by the server and/or client. I use it to access my Windoze box here at work from my Gentoo desktop and while VPN'd into work from home. Even though it's not a server, my Windoze box has some tools on it that I'm comfortable with <insert GUI-bashing rant here>.
It's nice because I can turn off compression here at work where the desktops are all networked at 100Mb/FD. But from home on my lowly 768Kb/128Kb DSL, I can crank up the compression for transmission speed. I use VNC on boxes like my desktop that I control. Other machines here use Terminal Server (aptly named) and Citrix's WinFrame/Metaframe/WhateverFrame, so I use those free clients where applicable. Enjoy! Have not had need for TightVNC. How do you use it?
