This is the biggest reason why people badmouth Windows
for use with Oracle. You install Citrix MetaFrame on
the same server as you run Oracle Database Server? Get
real.

You probably have IIS, RRAS, IPSec, numerous file
serving clients, Terminal Services configured as an
app server (not remote administration) also. Its
probably either a domain controller of Active
Directory Server too.

Disable all of that crap, and just run Oracle on it.
Better yet, remove it from your domain and disable
NetBIOS, disable the server service. Use good hardware
and good drivers and you will have no BSODs.

What business requirements does it serve to have all
sorts of non-oracle services running (misconfigured,
open) on an Oracle/Windows box ... that serve only to
leave holes and consume resources?

Windows 2003 Server is a great start towards having
most services secured or disabled by default. It still
needs to be configured and maintained by a competent
admin (loaded string there).

My Oracle/Linux box here is just running an oracle
instance, ssh, apache (over SSL) and Xserver only on
loopback. No ftp, samba, nfs, etc. The TNS listener is
only running on loopback. Enable only the services
that you require, whether its *nix or win.
