* Position: Web Application Architect Location: Chicago, IL Project duration: long term Required date: Needed by 10/17/08 Number of position: 1 * * * We currently have an opening in *Chicago* for a *Web Application Architect* with strong drive and experience in web architecture, web design, application lifecycle development and consulting. This position will require the ability to provide guidance on web development efforts, as well as work with the client on current and future state web architecture. This position supports and defines the software architecture that will meet functional requirements and business needs as well as product reliability & flexibility. In this position the Web Application Architect will be emphasizing 3 main areas of architectural engineering: (1) solution architecture, (2) implementation architecture, and (3) product architecture. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in web development, web architecture, web design, service oriented software architecture for large scale globally distributed systems leadership, consulting back office Telecom application software and Wireless technologies. The candidate must be intimately familiar with a variety of programming and software engineering methodologies (waterfall, iterative, unified, agile, etc.). * Responsibilities: * Interfaces with Technology and Business stakeholders to gather, define and document software architecture requirements. Analyzes requirements expectations to develop reliable and flexible software architectures. Drives technical software design and implementation with a hands-on approach. Authors software architecture specifications and participates in the creation of detailed technical design documents. Proactively raises issues if specification will lead to quality, system performance, or architectural issues in product. Recommends action plan and communicates issues to management, architects and product managers. Participates in technical design reviews, functional specification reviews and peer reviews; contributes to development project estimates, scheduling, test plans, and code reviews. Coordinates closely with the engineering team to ensure thorough development and testing on relevant platforms as is appropriate for the particular task/project. Creates functional, operational, and interface architecture models. Understands human-system interfaces to develop suitable architectures supporting ease of use and usability. Performs decision analysis, simulation, optimization, and decision-making to support the evaluation and selection of alternative software architectures. Identify, assess, and develop mitigations to product and process risks. Provides guidance and direction to the engineering and development team to ensure architectural integrity of the expert understanding of the technologies, architectures and implementation issues at all layers. Expert knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) design and Services as Software (SAS) design concepts Strong relational database skills, a plus. Ability to design complex architecture. Ability to lead and drive technical efforts. Expert knowledge of UML/RUP/Use Cases/OOAD/J2EE/MVC based web development/STRUTS/Design Patterns. Mentoring developers on OO/web projects * Qualifications: * Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in software engineering and architecture. Web architecture and web design experience Content Management Experience Significant experience in developing large-scale enterprise business solutions in a multi platform Experience in a software development environment as Software Architect Experience in designing large scale, distributed architectures Strong writing skills and ability to produce high quality documentation. Exceptional analytical skills required An attention to detail and strong follow-up skills are required.
