I always recommend Ortho's 'All About Growing Orchids'.
Isn't that the one where the newest edition is endorsed by the AOS? It advocates humidity trays (a myth in the North), and shows a beautiful color picture of a gravel tray (wonderful for spreading bugs & disease) with Phalaenopsis in slotted terra cotta pots.
