I assume you mean AOS judging. Local shows have their own criteria for ribbon 
judging.
Depends on whether the plant is a species or hybrid. If it is a species and 
wins an award, the owner is required to have it officially identified by an 
accepted taxonomist, and the award is published under the current correct name. 
If it is a hybrid, he can enter it as a Blc. if that's all he knows. It is the 
grex name that's important. If the plant is awarded, hopefully it will be 
published under the current genus name.
