I like white office paper because

1. it is always available,
2. it can be made into a square easily,
3. it folds nicely for an easy/intermed origami model.
4. it is relatively cheap

When I am teach origami to a beginner, I like to use paper that is different in
color from front and back.  To be able to distinguish between back and front
helps with following diagrams. I often cut used-paper into squares, the side
with the text on it would be the "back side" and the side with no writing on it
would be the "front side".  It's cheaper than origami paper, it saves the
environment, and it is easily accessible.
