Do you know if this variation was created by Gershon Legman which he calls 
"Improved Lotus"?

I have a copy of the Phoenix magazine where Legman published the Improved 
Lotus, as well as several of his drafts. But my archive is now in Buenos Aires 
and I'm in NY. I can check this for you in a couple months.
