Actually, the opposite might be better. (change kernel on oscar_server first, before installing OSCAR) This may reduce complications because PVFS and GM both build kernel modules during installation.
Of course, that means the nodes have to end up with the same kernel as the server... so you would have to use the kernel_picker package to make sure that happens.
