Hi Stephen:

Sure I'll do that.

After I successfully get this installation going, I'll probably post my findings so that other people can benefit from it.

However my only concern is when it comes time to go 64-bit, will we be able to use OSCAR to do it - because right now the only known distro that supports 64-bit is SUSE and RedHat Enterprise Server, both of which are not supported by OSCAR.

But I will leave the developers in peace to get that cut out in time (while I work on the docs, heh).

Cheers,

Bernard

Hi Bernard,

That is good news as we have 64+ opterons ready for installation.

I assume that this is a 32-bit install since 3.0 is not 64-bit ready.

File your findings as a bug report and then the group may decide how aggressive to go after this.

Since we are 3.0 tardy, i would not want to hold 3.0 much as we can always kick out a 3.1 quickly after. Jeremy is 3.x release manager, thus he has final call on this.

I guess everyone is busy working on the 3.0 release, but I was just curious whether you guys are interested in making it compatible with the Opteron nodes that are out there in the market.

Currently I am running tests on our Opteron cluster with 3.0b6 and the only issue I have encountered is with the tg3 driver that shipped with systemimager. This could be easily fixed by using the patches provided by Frank Crawford (or could well be fixed in a later release of systemimager).

I haven't run into any other 'show-stopping' bugs as far as Opteron goes - I just think it would be cool if we can support Opterons out of the box.

Just a thought.

Cheers,

Bernard
