Hi,

I wouldn't add Itanium architecture to an existing Opteron cluster.
The binaries are completely different. The new Xeon 64bit systems are
OK, just like the Opterons, so it is easy to extend the existing OSCAR
installation with new Xeons.

Subject: [Oscar-users] Mixed architecture OSCAR cluster

Hello OSCAR friends.

I have a slight dilemma, which I would like the advice of the OSCAR
community to help me in resolving. Let's say I have a cluster up and
running, based on Opterons. Now, I get a quote - a good quote - to
extend it; the only problem is that the new boxes have Intel chips
(either Xeon or Itanium). Now, our application compiles and runs fine on
all of the above, but I'm wondering how much of a pain managing the
cluster is going to be. My question is :

Has anyone out there tried this or something like this before - managing
a heterogeneous OSCAR cluster ? I'm particularly worried about the
imaging process...

Any other experience or advice is most appreciated and will help us in
making our choice.

Thanks
Bruce
