Hi Carlos:

Do you have RAID in your client nodes too?  SystemImager 3.6.3 does not support that well (3.7.3 does though).

I presume the error about "device.map" is generated from SystemConfigurator call - can you post more messages from that call?  Generally more error messages during the imaging process would help trouble-shoot the problem.

Which version of systemconfigurator do you have installed?

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: Re: [Oscar-users] SATA DISKS

Hi Bernard,

Not luck yet. Still downloading the nigthly tarball, but tried a fresh Oscar 4.2.1b5 install, sysimager updated to 3.6.3, and no luck again.

The image installs in the node Ok, but tells that he can't find /boot/grub/device.map and proposes a extrange one.
When booting from the hard disk, the following errors are reported:

mount: error 6 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting none
switchroot: mount failed 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2

and kernel panic...

Fixing the /boot/grub/device.map, copying it from a node with a straight RHEL4 installation, and running grub-install, doesn't help.

Any idea?

The server has a software RAID, I don't know if it cares.

Thanks again,
Carlos

Hi Bernard,

Jus't tried with the existing oscar 4.2.1b5, updating the Systemimager packages in the server to 3.6.3, and regenerating the image. This time the image installs into the node, but when we boot that  node from the hard disk, a 'kernel panic' error arises.

Still trying to dowload the 4.2.1 nightly tarball, and a start over will be tried now.

Thanks,
Carlos

PS. I am unable to use the IRC from here...

The only thing I can recommend is for you to use the latest 4.2.1 nightly tarball and replace the SystemImager RPMs with the latest stable release (3.6.3):

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=259&package_id=278

If the stock kernel does not work, you can try the UYOK functionality.

If that doesn't work, you can also try the latest development release (3.7.3):

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=259&package_id=37046

I will upload the RPMs shortly...

BTW, we also have an IRC channel #oscar-cluster in irc.freenode.net - in case you have some quick questions that are better asked interactively...

Good luck!

Bernard
