This was kind of silly.

I compared the info of 2 files -- a random one that worked (at), and a broken
one that didn't (iser):

[EMAIL PROTECTED] rpm]# file at-3.1.8-80_EL4.ia64.rpm
at-3.1.8-80_EL4.ia64.rpm: RPM v3 bin IA64 at-3.1.8-80_EL4

[EMAIL PROTECTED] rpm]# file iser-1.0-899--2.6.9-42.0.2.EL-ia64.rpm
iser-1.0-899--2.6.9-42.0.2.EL-ia64.rpm: RPM v3 bin IA64 iser-1.0-899

So "file" reported at's "name" (for lack of a better word) as "at-3.1.8-80_EL4"
-- basically, everything it found up to the .ia64.rpm part. But iser was
reporting only a fraction that file name. The package builder gives it a lot
of extra info that gets dropped somehow. I renamed
"iser-1.0-899--2.6.9-42.0.2.EL-ia64.rpm" to "iser-1.0-899.ia64.rpm," did the
same for linux-iscsi (dropped a big section of its name which didn't get
reported in `file`), and it worked.

The "hack" of creating /var/lib/systemimager/images/{image_name}/var/lock/rpm/
before building the image worked (as sited here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg05938.html).
My default package list image is currently building. Assuming success, I will
return to my efforts to figure out why it claims to not find 2 of the packages
I have added to the list.

Thanks,

Using a the sample rhel 4 for ia64 package list got past the step that was
bailing on me, and then I ran into the RPM lock issue. Apparently an upgrade
of RPM is necessary, based on the list archives, so I will try to do that and
try again.

Hi Michael,

I saw those docs when I was reading, and made sure that I installed the ia32el
package on the head node, and that it is present in /tftpboot/rpm. I had the
same thought about trying to build an image without my extra packages, and am
off to try that now.

Thanks,
--Joe

...not having the ia32el package present causes problems with building images...
