Hi Geoffroy

Thanks for the email. I'll try to recall as much info as I can about what
I've done.

The install I did a few weeks ago was a new install - i.e. no previous oscar
installation. I installed the headnode with SL5.5 x86_64 and then Oscar
6.1.0. I have not tried to upgrade, but while I was away yum downloaded
Oscar 6.1.1 and this appears to have overwritten some things. In /etc/oscar
I think the only file that actually differs is supported_distros.txt to
which I had added, under [6.1.0]:

scientific_linux-5-x86_64 =
distro:http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/55/x86_64/SL/
oscar:http://bison.csm.ornl.gov/repos/unstable/rhel-5-x86_64

My Oscar install was as follows.

1) OS setup as described in section 3.3.1 of the documentation for the OS
setup (but with my modified support_distros.txt).

2) oscar-config --setup-distro scientific_linux-5-x86_64

3) oscar-config --bootstrap

At this point I had to edit /usr/share/oscar/prereqs/yume/prereq.cfg because
under [scientific*:*:*] it said urlgrabber rather than python-urlgrabber
(and since the 6.1.1 accidental download it has reverted back to just saying
urlgrabber).

4) Re-ran the bootstrap.

5) system-sanity (failed the network and ssh tests so adjusted as per the
documentation)

6) oscar_wizard install

The main issue during this part was the my headnode differed from my compute
nodes so I had some disk driver issues to resolve which I did by creating a
specific initrd in the compute node image.

Overall, the install of Oscar went ok.

> - Did you successfully run oscar-config before to run oscar_wizard?

Yes, during the initial install as above. I have not tried since, as I was
concerned that because of the 6.1.1 download it might cause problems with
the existing install. I guess what I am essentially wondering is:

a) What files may have been changed by the download of 6.1.1 and the impact
this is likely to have had or might have on my existing install?

b) If I restore/modify the files I know I had to change to get the initial
install to work will this be enough to finish installing the remaining
compute nodes?

c) Is there a simple way of getting everything back to how it was before I
went on holiday (6.1.0 with no 6.1.1)?

Yes, as described above.

If you need any more info please let me know.

Best Regards

All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable.
Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security
threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes
sense of it. IT sense. And common sense.
