Selang seminggu saya datang lagi kesana, tengok-tengok satu pejabat kolej dah tak pakai winxp, semua dah bertukar jadi Ubuntu, diorang cakap senang malas nak berdepan dengan masalah virus.

Diorang plan lepas ni nak pasang semua Ubuntu kat PC dalam 3 makmal pulak secara berperingkat.

for MSC OSCONF 2010, ...let's not forget FOSS is about community, and
like cikgu Ayob, schools is one of those strategic communitites.

may I suggest the following:

FOSS Schools Competition,
----------------------------------------
rules is just use FOSS, have attractive prizes (can Sun, HP, IBM
sponsor?) can MDEC put up some money...?

1. Creative Content

we can come up with various subject matter, but a good one could be
'My Kampung' - they can research and presnt abt its historical,
cultural and
                             economic aspects.

   in the following areas:

  a. a 'Powerpoint' type presentation using Open Office.

   b. Art competition: using GIMP, Blender,  Image magic etc...

   c. Newsletter: using Scribus

(do we wanna go into animation??)

2. Programming competition

    * any ideas here?

Have a Linux install-fest for schools
----------------------------------------------------
The schools bring in their PC,
install Linux at the conf, and show them how to use/admin it
then they can tawke it 'home'

I wld also suggest they try out different flavours, we have Ubuntu,
Fedora & PCBSD communities already, any other? so ... lets get to
work..

Linux Success stories in Schools
-------------------------------------------------
Have those that already setup Linux in schools to come and deliver talks.

Perhaps setup a portal/site as a resource centre for Linux Schools.
Perhaps MDec/OSCCTelekom can sponsor server space.

SMJK Dindings is a real pioneer, they started in the early mid 90's,
w/o any MOE help, and they beat all the MOE smart (& and not so smart)
schools. Here is some links:

iSchool Portal » RFID – A Case Study – SMJK Dindings, Lumut, Perak
their home page:
http://http://www.smjkdgs.edu.my/

an article on them: implementing RFID
http://ischool.tv/news/2005/01/25/rfid-a-case-study-–-smjk-dindings-lumut-perak/

here is a paper:
http://www.iabu.moe.gov.my/Kertas.../Instructive_ICT_in_SMJK_Dindings.pdf

I've met the principle, Mr Tion Ting Ming,  before and he has been a
tremendous inspiration, in getting things moving in that school...
