Yes. Autodesk owns Maya. They acquired Alias (Maya developers) nearly
a 2 years ago.

Actually, I can't prove the fact that Autodesk will put 3ds Max down
in favor of Maya. I've heard this through the one person I'd rather
entrust to, but there's no warranty his information source is trusted
:)

One of the main reasons he said she should do that for is the high
level of human resources needed for maintaining both of the products.
But I think this is two markets, too, so this thing may be just a
rumor. I've just checked and discovered there's a plenty of such
conversations, and some say otherwise, that Maya will be put down
under the favor of Max.
