Me too, as I don't think anyone has explicitly said it. Strk said "shame
the framework is AS3 only, any plans to support older bytecode?". This
triggered a passionate thread where people said "why should we?" and
even "who needs an open source player". Surprising given that this is an
open source list and you won't find a friendlier audience.

I think the reason for the passionate response is simply this: AS3 is
much nicer to code in than AS2. For me personally, you could not pay me
enough to code in AS2 again. Porting legacy AS2 code to AS3, then
continuing development in AS3, would almost always make more sense.
