Hi,

do you have a camera or are you going to buy one? If buy, how much money?

You can use gigabit ethernet cameras, you can get the block of data with their SDK.
You can use 1394 cameras and get the data with 1394 libraries.
You can use a normal analog camera, plug it into a capture card and use V4L to talk to it.
There are many possibilities.
