Also, you should convert to latest OSG, or at least the plugin from the latest OSG, because that one uses much more recent OpenVRML version than the ancient 0.14.x. Anyhow, what type of performance drop are we talking here? Loading/parsing of the file? Or rendering performance with the loaded scenegraph? The former can be worked around by batch-converting using osgconv, as Robert mentioned above. If it is the latter, then that could be investigated.
