Hmm, well I bet a lot of software relies on that feature...
By the way I am using NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti and it works here.

Well what I did was to make sure that LightModel::setAmbientIntensity() would 
get the same values where applied.

Did not try it for surfaces with textures though.
